Tartans Race to 18th Place at NCAA Championship

The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team finished the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championsthips at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin, in 18th place after getting tripped early and boxed in during the first mile of the race. The finish improves upon last year's 21st-place showing.

Sophomore Andrew Singh (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) finished first for the Tartans in 89th place after crossing through the 8k course in 25:31.0. Senior Aadi Mhatre (Bridgewater, N.J. / Bridgewater-Raritan) got through the crowd to finish 111th in 25:40.4 while fellow senior William Mitchell (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) placed 127th in 25:46.3.

Junior Josh Kalapos (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) was next to finish for the Tartans, as he ran the 8k in 25:58.2. Freshman Michael Obroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) was 184th overall in 26:02.8 with junior Liam Walsh (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) finished 187th in 26:03.7.

The final runner to finish for the Tartans was sophomore Matt Karee (Elmira, N.Y. / Notre Dame) in 26:28.0.
