Emory Enjoys Fine Performances At Pre-Nationals

The Emory men’s cross country team recorded a fine performance on Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Kollege Town Pre-Nationals at the Lake Breeze Golf Club Winneconne, Wisconsin.

The 31st-ranked men’s squad closed out the race in 15th place out of 50 teams with 485 points. Top-ranked North Central (IL) finished first with 41 points with No. 6 Washington University placing second.  No. 9 Calvin (127 pts.) and No. 5 Haverford (144 pts.)  posted third- and fourth-place finishes, respectively. Sophomore Jack Whetstone  led the Emory contingent for the first time, turning in an 8K showing a 26:19 that placed him 76th in the 344-runner field. 

Junior Sam Branson was the team’s No. 2 performer, the fourth time in as many races this year that he was among the Eagles’ top-two runners, clocking a 26:30 that put him 98th on the leader board. Senior Bennett Shaw checked in at 26:31, ranking 100th on the scoresheet, while sophomore Luis Torres (26:34, 107th) and Brett Lucas (26:42, 123rd) accounted for the rest of the team’s scoring.
