Justin McQuality Joins UChicago Cross Country and Track & Field Staffs

From University of Chicago Athletics

University of Chicago Head Coach Chris Hall announced on Thursday that Justin McQuality has been hired as assistant coach for the track & field and cross country teams.

"I could not be more pleased with this hire," Hall said. "Coach McQuality's experience both as a coach and athlete made him a perfect fit for what we needed on our staff. I have no doubt he will make an immediate impact upon our athletes and I am truly excited to add him to our family."

McQuality arrives on campus after a successful tenure at The College at Brockport. He spent three years as an assistant track & field coach specializing in jumps, multi-events and hurdles. In 2018, McQuality's horizontal jumps groups finished among the top 16 in the Division III event squad rankings during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, with the women's and men's triple jump groups finishing as high as third and fourth last indoor season.

Prior to Brockport, McQuality coached at Fredonia State University for five years. His oversight groups included jumps, sprints, hurdles, javelin and multis. McQuality implemented training and strength programs for the teams while also serving as recruiting coordinator.

McQuality began his coaching career with a one-year stint at Illinois College with the horizontal jumps and multis. In recent years, he was an instructor at the Princeton University and Stanford University Track & Field Camps.

"I'm absolutely elated to be joining the UChicago family," McQuality said. "I had pinpointed UChicago as a school I wanted to work at when I made the decision to pursue coaching at the college level as an undergrad. I really enjoy the sports of track & field and cross country – the diversity, the sense of community, the science and art involved with peaking an athlete at exactly the right moment. But what I am truly passionate about is working with athletes that like to learn and have a burning desire to be the best they can possibly be in all aspects of life. I cannot thank Coach Hall or Athletic Director McDermott enough for awarding me this opportunity."

As a collegiate student-athlete, McQuality was a three-year captain of the track & field team at North Central College. He secured All-American honors in the indoor triple jump, as well as qualified for the national meet in the outdoor long jump during his career

McQuality received his bachelor's degree in exercise science and psychology from North Central. He went on to earn his master's degree in exercise science – with a concentration in human performance & injury prevention – from California University of Pennsylvania.
