Washington Softball Has Nine Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

St. Louis, Mo., October 8, 2013 – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team had nine student-athletes named to the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Scholar Athlete Team, as announced Tuesday by the Association.

Those honored include: Paige Biles (3.886), Claire Downs (3.914), Amanda Kalupa (3.719), Maggie Ingell (3.888), Ashley Janssen (4.0), Kelsey Neal (3.940), Sondra Polonsky (4.0), Hilary Stepansky (3.880) and Adrienne White (3.719). The award is given to any nominee who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year.

Washington U. also scored well off the field with the highest team GPA in the University Athletic Association (UAA) and 13th in NCAA Division III. The Bears posted a team cumulative GPA of 3.494 for the 2012-13 academic year.

Washington University finished the 2013 season with a 31-14 overall record, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in the last 12 years. The Bears also placed second in the UAA with a 5-3 mark.
