University of Chicago head softball coach Ruth Kmak will be inducted into the Marian Catholic High School Hall of Fame on Feb. 6, 2014. A dinner and induction ceremony will take place at the Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill.

Kmak is one of five inductees this year, which include two Athletes of the Year, Alumnus of the Year, a teacher for Fine Arts Distinguished Achievement and a sister for the Spirit of Marian honor. As a high school athlete, Kmak played on the Marian softball team that won four Girls Catholic Athletic Conference championships from 1985-88. She was also a member of the basketball team that reached the Class AA Sweet 16 in 1988.

Kmak is in her 15th year as head softball coach at UChicago. She is the program's all-time leader in wins with a career record of 293-190-1 (.606 winning percentage). The Maroons have made the NCAA postseason six times under Kmak, with the most recent in 2012.

"We are thrilled for Coach Kmak and honored to have someone with such humility and quality of character in our Maroon family," said UChicago Athletic Director Erin McDermott. "She is every bit as good of a human being as she is a talented athlete. On behalf of the UChicago athletic community, I congratulate Ruth for this terrific honor and commend the committee on its wise selection."
