Brandeis University junior Anya Kamber of Sammamish, Wash., has been named a first-team All-American utility player by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). She was honored tonight at the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament finals in Tyler, Texas.

Kamber, who was previously named second-team All-University Athletic Association and first-team All-New England, is Brandeis's second-straight first-team All-American, joining classmate and center fielder Amanda Genovese of North Haven, Conn. The only other All-American in program history was Kaitlin Streilein '08 in 2008.

Kamber finished second on the team with a .420 batting average. She was the only Brandeis player to appear in all 39 games this year, starting 24 games as an outfielder, 10 at shortstop, two each at first base and second base, and even one as a catcher.  Kamber led the squad in hits (58), doubles (11) and RBIs (38). She was fifth in the UAA in batting average and fourth in hits. In 10 games in which she filled in while All-America teammate (and roommate) Genovese was injured, Kamber hit .541 and slugged .730.

For her career, Kamber has played in 75 of a possible 76 contests, with a career .340 batting average, 25 doubles, two triples and seven home runs for a .460 slugging percentage.

The Brandeis softball team posted a 21-18 record this season, the eighth under head coach Jessica Johnson. The Judges earned the second seed in the 2014 ECAC Division III New England tournament, but were ousted in two games.
