From Brandeis University Athletics
Four Brandeis University softball players have earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New England honors. Juniors Amanda Genovese of North Haven, Conn. and Anya Kamber of Sammamish, Wash., were both first-team selections, and will be eligible for All-America honors. Rookie Liana Mossof Agoura Hills, Calif., and sophomore Madison Sullivan of Dover, N.H., were named to the third team.
It was the most All-New England selections Brandeis has had since 2012, and the first time that program had multiple first-team choices since 2010.
Genovese led Brandeis with a .452 batting average, .514 on base percentage, and 29 stolen bases. She has a Brandeis-record 108 steals through three seasons, reaching the century mark during an April 3 game against Endicott College. She was first-team All-New England selection last year as well, and went on to be named a first-team All-American. She was a third-team choice her rookie year.
Kamber earned UAA honors for the first time in her career after finishing second on the team with a .420 batting average. She was the only Brandeis player to appear in every game this year, and led the squad in hits (58), doubles (11) and RBIs (38). She was fifth in the UAA in batting average and fourth in hits.
Moss led the Judges in home runs with seven, extra base hits with 19, and a .726 slugging percentage. She batted .387 in 32 games, good for third on the team, had 28 RBIs, and added nine doubles and three triples. Moss finished in the top 10 in the UAA in batting average, slugging percentage, triples and home runs. She was named the conference rookie of the year.
Sullivan batted .383 on the year and was second the team in hits (44) and doubles (9). She batted .407 in conference play, including a two-run home run against No. 9 Emory, part of a 3-for-4 performance during the Judges first-ever win against the Eagles.
Overall, the Brandeis softball team finished with a 21-18 record. The Judges won their final six regular-season games to qualify for their eighth-straight postseason appearance, earning the No. 2 seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Tournament. Brandeis lost both of its ECAC games, falling 3-0 to Smith and 7-4 to WPI. Coach Jessica Johnson's squad went 3-5 in conference play, including wins over then-#18 Washington University, and Emory.
Genovese is a 2011 graduate of North Haven High School. She is the daughter of Mark and Caren Genovese, North Haven, Conn.
Kamber is a 2011 graduate of Skyline High School. She is the daughter of Peter and Tracey Kamber, Sammamish, Wash.
Moss is a 2013 graduate of Agoura High School. She is the daughter of Ken and Laura Moss, Agoura Hills, Calif.
Sullivan is a 2012 graduate of Dover High School. She is the daughter of James and Gail Sullivan, Dover, N.H.
