Senior Ally Kersthold's single in the bottom in the eighth
inning scored Alyssa Pollard with the gane-winning run
against Case Western in the final contest of the UAA Championships,
allowing the Eagles to share for a piece of the league crown.
The 4-3 decision over the Spartans upped Emory's overall
record to 25-3, 5-3 in the conference. The Eagles share first
place with both Washington University and Case Western.
Freshman Tara Fallahee, Kersthold and senior Lauren
Gordodetsky all hit safely twice with Fallahee hitting a two-out
solo homer in the bottom of the first that tied the game at 1-1.
The Eagles tacked up two more runs in their half of the
second when junior Moira Sullivan hit solo homer, which
was later followed by a two-base hit by Gorodetsky that
scored Taylor Forte. Emory stretched its lead to 4-1 in
the third when, after the first two batters were retired,
senior Megan Light doubled and then scored on a single
by Micah Scharff.
The Spartans battled back to tie the game with a three-run sixth
that was keyed by a two-run single by Gena Roberts. In
Emory's half of the eighth, Pollard led off with a walk, them
scampered to second when Gordodetsky doubled, setting the stage for
Kersthold's game winner.
