From University of Rochester Athletics

Shelby Corning, Nina Korn, and Tayler Fravel had three hits apiece to spark Rochester to an 8-2 victory over Brandeis University at the University Athletic Association softball championships on Friday afternoon.
 
The win followed a 10-5 loss to ninth-ranked Emory University in the morning. Rochester is 5-5 overall, 2-4 in the UAA championships with two games left. The Yellowjackets finish with games vs. Case Western Reserve (10 am) and Washington-St. Louis (noon) on Saturday.
 
Freshman Eleni Wechsler went the distance to pick up her third win this season. She scattered eight hits, walked two, struck out three, and allowed only one earned run.
 
Rochester took advantage of three Brandeis errors in the bottom of the first to grab a 3-0 lead. Meg Hennessy reached on an error and Corning followed with a single. Korn singled home Hennessy. Brittany Grage reached on an error which plated Corning. Fravel grounded out back to the pitcher. When the ball was booted after that, Korn scored the third run of the inning.
 
In the fifth, Korn singled, took third on Fravel's double to right center, and scored on Alyssa Murillo's single. A passed ball brought home Fravel and pinch-runner Tori Poplaski scored after a pinch-hit single by Lauren Muni.
 
In the sixth, Corning hit a one-out single and Korn singled her to third while taking second on the throw. Grage's sac fly to center made it 7-1 and Fravel's third hit of the afternoon scored Korn for an 8-1 edge.
 
The morning loss to Emory was a high-scoring affair for three innings. Grage singled home Hennessy and Corning for a fast 2-0 lead. Emory got it right back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, all unearned.  The Eagles added two more in the second, one of those unearned.
 
Rochester tied it at 5-5 in the top of the third. With one out, Murillo walked and was replaced by Poplaski as a runner.  Korn walked. Grage greeted reliever Amanda Kardys with a three-run home run. Emory went back in front on a two-run shot by Tara Fallahe in the bottom of the third. The Eagles put it out of reach in the sixt with three runs on two hits and two walks. Fallahe's based-loaded double was the different.
 
Wechsler started vs. Emory, but came out after three hitters. Grage took the loss, allowing seven hits, seven runs (six earned), four walks, and three strikeouts in six innings.
