From Brandeis University Athletics
Brandeis University has named Danielle DelPonte as its new softball coach, Director of Athletics Sheryl Sousa ’90 announced today.
“We are excited to add Danielle to our staff,” Sousa said. “Her style and personality will be a terrific fit with our department and with our student-athletes. I believe she has the experience to lead our program to the next level of success in New England and in the UAA.”
Delponte becomes the fourth head softball coach in Brandeis history. She spent the 2014 season as the head coach at Anna Maria College, where she also served as an admissions counselor. Prior to that, she served as head softball coach at Daniel Webster College for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. In 2012, she guided the Eagles to a 23-20 record, the best in school history, and a berth in the ECAC Division III New England tournament, the program’s only postseason berth to date. She was named the New England Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year after that season.
Prior to her head coaching experience, Delponte served as an assistant coach at Boston College and at Springfield.
Delponte is a 2009 graduate of the University of Connecticut, where she was a catcher and still ranks among the top five on the Huskies’ career list in home runs and RBI. She was a two-time Big East All-Academic selection and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic team member. Delponte received her B.A. from UConn in education and an M.Ed. from Springfield in Sports Management and Recreation. She is a native of Tewksbury, Mass.
She takes over a Brandeis program that has been to the ECAC Division III New England tournament in each of the last five seasons, winning the title in 2015 with a 21-14 record. The Judges return seven of the 10 starters from the ECAC tournament.
