Kahala Bonsignore of NYU Named First Team Academic All-District

Junior captain Kahala Bonsignore of the New York University softball team was named Division III College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) First Team Academic All-District Three on Thursday, May 7. With the distinction, Bonsignore automatically moves on to the ballot for consideration for CoSIDA National Academic All-America Team honors.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at an institution and must have completed at least one full calendar year at the institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. 

This is the latest academic accolade for the Ventura, CA, native. She recently earned University Athletic Assoication (UAA) Spring Sport All-Academic honors, as well.

Bonsignore had an outstanding season for NYU, which competed on the NCAA Division III varsity level for the first time in 2015. In earning First Team All-UAA recognition, she led the team in batting average (.491), hits (56), doubles (17), runs batted in (36), total bases (79), slugging percentage (.693), and on-base percentage (.512) while striking out only once in 114 at-bats. Her batting average also led the UAA.

Bonsignore is an individualized study major in NYU's Gallatin School on Individuialized Study.
