From Case Western Reserve University Athletics
Senior rightfielder Ashley Parello (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) hit a two-run home run in the third inning and drove in four runs to lead the Case Western Reserve University softball team to a 14-9 win over Rhodes College to remain undefeated. Parello finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored.
The Spartans advance to 3-0, while Rhodes dropped to 1-10.
The Spartans, who pounded out 18 hits, scored five times in the first inning. Sophomore pitcher Annie Wennerberg (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and senior outfielder Gena Roberts (Miami, Fla./Palmer-Trinity) each finished with three hits, inclusing two hits. Wennerberg scored three times and drove in a pair of runs on a RBI double in the third inning and a solo home run in the seventh inning.
The Spartans were set to play a second game this afternoon against Rhodes, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.
