The Emory softball team returned to action Thursday afternoon and emerged with a sweep of a home doubleheader against intra-city foe Agnes Scott College. The No. 12-ranked Eagles claimed the first contest by an 8-1 margin before capturing a five-inning, 9-1 triumph in the finale. Emory now stands 28-4 on the season while the Scotties fell to 6-20.
Emory 9, Agnes Scott 1 (5 inn.) – Juniors Melody Carter and Alyssa Pollard each go 2-for-3 at the plate and score three times while freshman Janelle Turnquest hits safely twice while knocking in three runs … Trailing, 1-0, Emory scores four runs without the aid of a hit in the bottom of the second with bases-loaded walks to Brianna Berceau, Taylor Forte and Micah Scharff all forcing runs in while a sacrifice fly by Hannah Sendel accounts for the other run … Turnquest records her first two ribbies with a one-out single in the third inning as the Eagles tack three more runs on the board … Turnquest singles in Melody Carter in the bottom of the fourth and works a double steal with Pollard that sees the latter score the final run of the game … Sophomore pitcher Brittany File notches her 12th win of the season in 15 decisions, tossing the first four innings, striking out four, while freshman Jacky Farrow hurls the final inning … The win boosts the Eagles' home record to 17-1.
Emory 8, Agnes Scott 1 – Melody Carter comes through with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate to highlight Emory's 13-hit attack … Facing a 1-0 deficit, Carter delivers a grand slam, her third round tripper of the season, in the bottom of the third that stakes Emory to a 4-1 advantage … The Eagles add for more runs the following frame, the first coming as a result of back-to-back triples by Raygan Greer and Taylor Forte … After a Sendel sacrifice fly scores Forte, Janelle Turnquest singles in Tara Fallahe while a walk to Gracie Taber later in the inning pushes in Ashley Powers across the plate … Junior Sydney Carpenter racks up her 15th win in the circle, allowing just three hits over five innings and striking out five.
