Emory Takes Both Games Of Doubleheader vs. Covenant

The Emory softball team started a busy stretch of action on Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep at Covenant College. The No. 9-ranked Eagles boosted their win streak to 13 games and raised their overall record to 24-2 after coming away with 14-0 (5 inn.) and 9-1 (6 inn.) verdicts over the Lady Scots who slipped to 9-13 on the year.

Emory 9, Covenant College 1 (6 inn.) – Emory posts its 14th contest of the year with 10 or more hits in capping off the sweep of the Lady Scots… Senior Micah Scharff goes 3-for-4 at the plate and scores three times while sophomores Tara Fallahee and Amy Wray each hit safely twice with four RBIs … Sophomore pitcher Brittany File raises her record to 9-2, tossing five scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and striking out nine… Emory erupts for five runs in the third with Fallahee driving in two runs with a double and Wray delivering a three-run homer, her third of the year … Emory tacks on two more runs in the fourth with junior Hannah Sendel doubling in Scharff and Wray later singling in Sendel… Fallahee accounts for the team's final two runs with her fourth round tripper of the campaign, a two-run blow, in the top of the sixth… Fallahee goes a combined 5-for-7 with 5 RBIs and four runs scored over the two games.

Emory 14, Covenant College 0 (5 inn.) – Six Eagles hit safely at least two times, finishing with a season-high 19 hits that ties the program's 10th-highest game total… Amy Wray and Hannah Sendel both go 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs to highlight the offensive attack … Junior pitcher Sydney Carpenter raises her record to 14-0, hurling three innings with freshman Audrey Weller going the last two … It marks the fourth time in five games that Emory has shutout the opposition… Tara Fallahee's first of three hits drives in Emory's first run in the top of the firs … Emory puts the game out of reach the following inning when it crosses the plate six times… Scharff and Wray each come through with RBI doubles while Sendel blasts her 10th homer of the season, a three-run shot, to highlight the outburst… Emory's 14 runs ties its season high.
