Emory Splits Pair During Tuesday Play at UAA Championships

The Emory softball team split a pair of games on the second day of action at the University Athletic Association Championships.  The No. 8-ranked Eagles suffered a 3-0 setback to No. 23 Washington University in their opener before rebounding for a 10-5 victory over Brandeis.  Emory stands 12-2 overall, 2-2 in UAA contests.

Emory 10, Brandeis 5 -- Emory pounds out a season-high 15 hits in evening its UAA record ... Junior Hannah Sendel goes 3-for-3 with three RBIs while sophomore Taylor Forte collects three safeties and scores a pair of runs ... Emory scores single runs in each of the first three innings before the Judges put four up in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead ...  Emory answers with a four-run blitz in the top of the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double by freshman Ashley Powers ... The Eagles take a 9-3 cushion in the fifth when Sendel socks a two-run homer, her fifth round tripper of the season ... Junior Alyssa Pollard boosts her hitting streak to 13 games ... Junior Sydney Carpenter gets the win in the circle after tossing 4 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one run and fanning six.

Washington University 3, Emory 0 -- The Bears do all of the game's scoring in the first frame with Adrienne White stroking a two-run double ... Carpenter turns in a stellar effort in relief for Emory, hurling seven innings of shutout ball, allowing four hits and striking out three ... Wash U pitcher  Annie Pitkin goes all seven innings in notching her seventh win in eight decisions, limiting the Eagles to just two hits.
