Brittany File Perfect Game Highlights Emory Softball's Season-Opening Wins

From Emory University Athletics

Sophomore Brittany File hurled a five-inning perfect game, highlighting the Emory softball team's two season-opening wins on Saturday. The No. 16-ranked Eagles opened with a 10-0 triumph over Rhodes College before closing out the afternoon with a 7-3 decision over Lynchburg.

File struck out nine Rhodes batters over the five-inning contest and was aided by a 10-hit attack.  Sophomore outfielder Amy Wray and junior catcher Melody Carter drove in runs in Emory's half of the first to stake File to an early lead. The Eagles then blew the game open the following frame, crossing the plate seven times.  Wray knocked in her second run of the game with a double that scored senior Brianna Berceau, while Carter delivered an RBI  single that allowed Wray to cross the plate. The big blow of the inning was a three-run homer by freshman first baseman Ashely Powers, Emory's first round tripper of the campaign. Emory scored its final run in the third when Berceau led off with a triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior Alyssa Pollard.  A total of seven players picked up hits for Emory.

Sophomore Tara Fallahee sparked Emory's offensive effort against Lynchburg, going 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in a pair of runs. Freshman third baseman Janelle Turnquestdelivered her first home run, a solo blast that lead off the Eagles half of the second, giving them a 5-1 advantage.  Sophomore Taylor Forte, accounted for two of her three ribbies with a two-run double in the fourth that closed out the game's scoring. Junior pitcher Sydney Carpenter picked up the win, tossing four innings and fanning three batters.  Freshman Audrey Weller and File combined to toss the final three innings.
