Emory Posts Senior Day Wins Over Georgia Highlands

From Emory University Athletics

The Emory softball team treated a sun-drenched Senior Day crowd to a pair of exhibition wins over Georgia Highlands on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles captured the first game in eight innings, 3-2, before registering a six-inning 8-0 triumph in the finale.

Between games, the Emory softball program recognized seniors Brianna Berceau (Wilmette, IL) and Micah Scharff (St. Louis, MO) for their contributions to the program during their careers.

In the opener, freshman Raygan Greer delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the eights that wiped out a 2-1 GHC lead and gave the Eagles the dramatic victory. Scharff and sophomore Taylor Forte each went 2-for-3 at the plate with Scharff knocking in one run.

In the second game, Emory tacked three runs up on the board in its half of the second with junior Alyssa Pollard driving in the first two with a double that scored Greer and freshman Ashley Powers.  Pollard then crossed the plate via a two-bagger by Forte. The Eagles sealed the outcome with a five-run explosion in the bottom of the sixth that saw Scharff and Forte coming through with run-producing singles. Scharff collected two hits in four plate appearances while Forte recorded a 3-for-4 performance.
