Emory Posts Doubleheader Sweep Over Wesleyan

The Emory softball team kept up its winning ways on Saturday, posting a doubleheader sweep over Wesleyan College. The No. 9-ranked Eagles boosted their win streak to 11 games and raised their overall record to 22-2 after coming away with 4-0 and 14-2 (5 inn.) decisions over the Wolves who slipped to 11-15 on the year.

Emory 14, Wesleyan 2 (5 inn.) – Emory pounds out a season-high 17 hits as it raises its home record to 14-0 … Senior Micah Scharff goes 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored while junior Hannah Sendel collects three hits and a pair of RBIs in four trips to the plate … Freshman Ashley Powers leads off the bottom of the second by socking her fifth home run of the year, a solo shot, that ties the score at 1-1 … Powers adds another RBI later in the game, her team-high tying eighth multiple-RBI outing of the season … The Eagles tack on three more runs in the frame with Scharff and Sendel delivering run-producing singles … After junior Melody Carter doubles in Powers in the bottom of the third with the squad's fifth run, the Eagles blitz the Wolves with a nine-run fourth with two-run doubles by sophomore Tara Fallahee and Scharff the key blows … Sophomore pitcher Brittany File is the beneficiary of the offensive fireworks, tossing the first four innings, allowing two hits and fanning eight, in upping her season record to 8-2.

Emory 4, Wesleyan 0 – Junior Sydney Carpenter remains perfect in the circle with her 13th win in as many decisions, going the first six frames and allowing just one hit and striking out eight … Michaf Scharff, Hannah Sendel and sophomore Taylor Forte all hit safely on two occasions … Tara Fallahee comes through with the GWRI with a two-out triple in the bottom of the first that scores Scharff who earlier doubled … Back-to-back doubles by Hannah Sendel and Scharff in the third stake the Eagles to a 2-0 advantage … A sacrifice fly by junior Melody Carter in the fourth and a double by sophomore Amy Wray in the fifth account for Emory's final two runs … Freshman pitcher Audrey Weller comes in the top seventh and retires the Wolves in order … Five of Emory's eight hits are of the extra-base variety.
