The New York University softball team defeated the College at Old Westbury in a pair of road contests on Tuesday, April 7, at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Old Westbury, NY.
The Violets (4-16) picked up their first-ever road victories in program history by defeating the Panthers 10-2 in game one and 10-0 in five innings in game two.
Jacqueline Tremblay got the start in the circle for NYU in both contests, picking up two victories to improve to 3-4 on the season. The sophomore hurler began with six strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched in game one, allowing two earned runs on nine hits. Tremblay completed her day with a complete-game one-hit shutout and another six strikeouts in the second half of the doubleheader.
"Jackie threw outstanding today. She kept the ball low and kept the hitters off balance," said NYU Head Coach Now-Allah James. "We had solid defense behind her today. We hit the ball hard and came up with big hits when needed."
In the first half of the doubleheader, the squads went back and forth for the first few innings. The Violets scored two in the top of the first via a Kahala Bonsignore RBI groundout and a Molly Webber RBI double.
Old Westbury got one back in the home half, but the Violets scored another run in the top half of the third inning after Webber tripled down the rightfield line. The Panthers scored another run in the home half of the third to cut NYU's lead to 3-2.
The Violets then scored seven more runs over the final five innings to take the eight-run victory.
Game two went much quicker than the first, as NYU scored one run in the top of the first, followed by four in the fourth and five in the fifth. The 10-0 lead after five innings ended the game via the eight-run mercy rule.
Game 1 Highlights:
- Sage Scheiwiller finished 3-for-5 with two runs.
- Bonsignore was also 3-for-5 with two runs, including an RBI and a double.
- Colby Tarsitano had a nice performance, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs, two RBIs, a walk, and a double.
- Making her first start behind the plate for NYU, Lauren Parnaby was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a sacrifice fly.
- Webber was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a double, a triple, and a run scored.
- Samantha Block was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Game 2 Highlights:
- Scheiwiller was 2-for-3 with two runs and a pair of RBIs.
- Bonsignore was 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI.
- Webber, Natalie Evans, Val Schwein, and Marisa Bella were all 1-for-3 in the nightcap. Webber, Evans and Schwein each scored a run, while Evans had three RBIs and Bella had one.
