Rochester staged a terrific late game comeback on Tuesday afternoon when the Yellowjackets rallied to defeat Washington-St. Louis, 6-5, in the UAA Softball Championship Tournament.

Washington built a 5-0 lead through the first two innings on six hits, one of those a home run, and sound baserunning. The Bears stole three bases in the first two innings and finished with six on the day.
 
With the victory, Rochester moved to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the UAA tournament. Washington, which defeated Case Western Reserve on Tuesday morning, is 1-1 in the tournament, 9-3 overall.
 
Eleni Wechsler picked up the win in relief and drove in four of Rochester's six runs. Wechsler took over to start the third inning. In five innings, she allowed two hits, two walks, and stranded six Washington runners, four in scoring position. She worked out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the fourth. She induced cleanup hitter Hannah Merhle to hit a comebacker to the mound. Wechsler threw out Alyssa Wilson at the plate which still left the bases loaded with two down. She got Janet Taylor on another comebacker, ending the inning.
 
 

Rochester got on the scoreboard in the fifth. Gabi Alatorre walked. After Alyssa Murillo struck out, Lauren Muni singled through the left side with Alatorre moving to second. Julia Liberto ran for Alatorre. Wechsler followed with a three-run home run to center field.
 
Washington started Maggie Clapp settled down again. The hits by Muni and Wechsler were the first for Rochester since Kayla Kibling singled leading off the game. After Kibling's single, Clapp retired 12 in a row. Following the Muni home run, she set down five more.
 
With the Bears ahead, 5-3, heading into the seventh, Alatorre reached when her bouncer was mishandled. Murillo was hit by a pitch. Tiffany White ran at second for Alatorre. Muni bunted right on the third base line and it froze there for an infield single which loaded the bases. Kathleen Konopka ran for Muni.
 
Mackenzie Cauden relieved Clapp. Wechsler lined out to left field which scored White from third. Cauden fanned pinch-hitter Jocelyn Blackshear. Kibling popped a single into short right field. It brought home Murillo with the tying run and sent Konopka to third. Pinch-hitter Sarah Wayson singled to the left side to score Konopka with the go-ahead run. Cauden ended the inning by striking out Brittany Grage.
 
Wechsler got four grounders in the bottom of the ninth. Merhle bounced back to her for the first out. Taylor reached when her grounder to the right side was misplayed. Brooke Hofer bounced out to Grage at third with pinch-runner Hera Taing moving to second.  Sydney Caldwell grounded out to Steph Brunet at second ending the game.
 
In the first inning, Taylor hit a two-run single and Caldwell followed with an RBI single later in the inning. Washington made it 5-0 in the second on Adrienne White's two-out, two-run home run to left field.
