Emory Wins Two On Saturday - Brittany File Ties Program's Single-Season Strikeout Record

From Emory University Athletics

Junior Brittany File tossed a three-hit shutout and junior Amy Wary knocked in three runs in sparking Emory to a Saturday afternoon win over Rhodes College, and helping the Eagles to their second win of the day.  Emory opened with an eight-inning 4-3 triumph over Southwestern University (TX) in its opening encounter of the day before registering a 3-0 verdict over the host Lynx in the finale.  Emory, ranked No. 10 in the Division III ranks, now owns an overall record of 34-4.

File fanned 10 Rhodes batters, her eighth double-figure effort of the season, and raised her won-lost record to 26-2, just one shy of tying the program's single-season mark.  Her 10 strikeouts upped her campaign's total to 230, tying her with Shanon Andersen (2008) for most strikeouts by an Emory pitcher in a season.  Wray turned in a 3-for-3 effort at the plate, her fifth multi-hit performance of the campaign, which included a pair of RBI doubles.  Emory picked up all the runs it would need in the top of the second when it scored twice, the first run coming across the plate when Wray singled in Sam Vincent, and Wray later scoring following a single by freshman Emmeryn Wheelan.

In the opener, a single by Wray in the bottom of the eighth inning plated pinch runner Kelsey Alexander with the winning run. Senior Alyssa Pollard and junior Taylor Forte paced Emory's 13-hit attack with each player going 3-for-4.  Pollard scored a pair of runs while Forte scored once and drove in one run.  Vincent collected four hits in as many trips to the plate, her first multi-hit outing of the season.  File pocketed the win in relief, tossing six scoreless frames and allowing just three hits while striking out 12.
