Brittany File and Taylor Forte of Emory University Earn Academic All-America Honors

From Emory University Athletics

Emory University juniors Brittany File (Carmel, CA) and Taylor Forte (Pleasantville, NY) have been recognized for their excellence in the classroom and on the field with their selections to the 2016 Academic All-America Division III Softball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Both players were chosen as third-team honorees.

File has put on a dominant display in the circle for the Eagles this season, crafting a won-lost record of 35-4, with her victory total a school season record while pacing all Division III hurlers. Recently named the University Athletic Association's Player of the Year, File has established school seasonal marks in innings pitched (222 1/3) and strikeouts (330) in spearheading the team to an overall record of 45-6 and a berth in the NCAA Division III Championships that begin on Thursday (May 26). Named the Most Valuable Player of the Mount Berry Regional and the Outstanding Player of the Atlanta Super Regional, she has compiled an ERA of 1.23 and has struck out 10 or more batters on 14 occasions.  Career-wise, File ranks first on the program's all-time chart in strikeouts (647), second in wins (62), third in innings pitched (460 1/3) and eighth in ERA (2.02). A double major in neuroscience and behavioral biology and philosophy, she was nominated with a grade-point-average of 3.65

Forte, a double major in biology and mathematics, earned her berth with a GPA of 3.72.  She has seen action in 49 contests and has made all of her 48 starts in left field. Selected to the All-UAA Second Team, she is hitting at a .377 clip.  She leads the squad with 15 doubles, good for a 10th-place tie on the program's seasonal ladder, and has chalked up 14 contests of two or more hits. She has scored 48 runs, placing her second on the team in that department, and her 55 hits ranks fourth.

File and Forte become the 10th and 11th different Emory softball players to earn Academic All-America honors.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his current institution.
