The New York University softball team has been selected as the #2 overall seed in the upcoming 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Softball Championship, the organization announced on Monday, May 9.
NYU (23-15), which is only in its second year as a Division III varsity team, is heading to the postseason for the first time.
The Violets will open up play in the double-elimination tournament against #3 Rutgers University-Newark on Saturday at noon, following the 10:00 am contest between #1 Stockton University and #4 Farleigh Dickenson University-Florham .
All games will be played at Stockton University in Galloway Township, NJ.
The Violets have been led all season by a pair of freshmen, Diana King and Ashley Mains. King is hitting .427, has hit seven home runs and boasts a 7-3 record with a 2.98 ERA on the mound, while Mains is hitting .389 with nine doubles and five triples. Kahala Bonsignore, a senior captain, has also contributed to NYU's successful season, hitting .357 with eight doubles and three home runs.
