Diana King of the New York University softball team was named Second Team All-Northeast Region (outfield) by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the organization recently announced.

The freshman is the first NYU softball player to receive All-Region accolades from the NFCA.

"Diana deserves this, she had an unbelievable year for us," said Head Coach Now-Allah James. "This award also says a lot about our program as we took a big step this season and need to keep improving if we want to reach our goals."

King helped lead the Violets to an extremely successful second season at the Division III varsity level, helping the squad more than double the win total from its inaugural 2015 campaign. In addition to she played a big role as the Violets won the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Championship.

A native of Rye, NY, King succeeded both in the outfield and as a pitcher. She led the team in batting average (.428), hits (59), runs (40), and home runs (8). King's statistics on the mound were also impressive, as she finished with a team-best nine wins to go along with a 2.84 ERA. The rookie's numbers also ranked among the best in the University Athletic Association (UAA) this spring as she finished ranked in the top five in batting average (second), home runs (third) and ERA (fourth).

Earlier this spring, King was named to the University Athletic Association  All-Tournament Team, First Team All-UAA, and also received the distinction as Most Outsanding Player following the Violets' ECAC Championship.
