Elizabeth Bourne Two-Hits Cortland as Rochester Gains Doubleheader Split

Elizabeth Bourne spun a two-hit shutout over SUNY Cortland, shortly after the Red Dragons posted a mercy rule win over the Yellowjackets.
 
Rochester won game two, 6-0. Cortland took the opener, 9-1. It ended in the bottom of the fifth when Cortland scored one run for the eight-run bulge.
 
The Yellowjackets evened their overall record at 20-20 with the split. Cortland's record is 25-9. Rochester's Tuesday home DH vs. Buffalo State has been cancelled. The Yellowjackets will finish the regular season on Sunday against St. Lawrence in a Liberty League doubleheader at 1 pm. It will be Senior Day.
 
Rochester collected 11 hits against Cortland pitching. Kayla Kibling, Mackenzie Cronin, Rachael Pletz, and Bourne each had two hits. Bourne and Pletz had two RBIs apiece. Shelby Corning and Logan Mohr drove in one run apiece.
 
Bourne earned her third win, the second in two days. She won an eight-inning battle against RIT on Saturday, She threw 75 pitches on Sunday. She walked two and struck out one.  Alexandra Flint took the loss for the Red Dragons (11-3). In two innings, she gave up six hits, four runs (all earned), and struck out one. Sam VanDorn pitched the final five innings. She allowed five hits, walked two, struck out four, and yielded two earned runs.
 
Rochester scored four in the top of the second. Cronin and Pletz led off the inning with singles. After Eleni Wechsler popped up, Mohr doubled to left center scoring Cronin. Bourne powered a double to right center to bring home two runs. Kibling's single put runners at the corners and Corning's grounder scored Bourne.
 
Bourne hit another double in the fourth, but pinchrunner Raegen Herne was thrown out at home trying to steal. The Yellowjackets tacked on two more in the seventh. They loaded the bases on singles by Kibling, Corning, and a walk to Jocelynn Blackshear. Pinch-hitter Lauren Muni fanned. Cronin grounded to short and Kibling was forced at the plate. Pletz followed with a single to left. Corning and Blackshear scored. Cronin was thrown out trying to reach third.
 
Cortland put two runners in scoring position. With two down a base hit and a walk was followed by a groundout to end the second. In the fourth, first baseman Mikayla Shade doubled, but was stranded.
 
In the opener, Cortland had 13 hits leading to seven earned runs. Jamie Bucci and Danielle Cork had the big bats. They combined for five hits – Cork hit a three-run homer in the fourth, scored six runs, and drove in five. The top three in the lineup were 7-9 with five RBIs and six runs scored.
 
Wechsler took the loss. In 3.1 innings, she gave up eight hits, eight runs (six earned), walked one, and struck out four. Sam Malecki pitched the last 1.1 innings, giving up five hits, one earned run, and walked one.
 
Offensively, Rochester had four hits. The Yellowjackets scored an uearned run in the first. With one down, Corning and Blackshear singled. Muni reached on a fielding error after Corning was forced at third. Cronin singled home Blackshear.
