From Emory University Athletics

The Emory softball team wrapped up its opening weekend of University Athletic Association action against Case Western on Saturday.

In a resumption of a contest that was suspended on Friday because of darkness, Emory finished with a 7-0 victory. Following that outcome, the Eagles hammered out a 15-3 decision over the Spartans in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. However, in the finale, CWRU salvaged a split in the four-game series with a 5-4 come-from-behind triumph. Emory is 17-9 in overall play, 2-2 in the UAA, while Case Western is 9-7 overall (2-2 UAA).

GAME 2 (RESUMED FROM FRIDAY) – EMORY 7, CASE WESTERN 0
** Before the game was suspended, the starting pitchers, Sami Feller of Emory and Katie Dzierwa of CWRU hang goose eggs through the first four innings.
** Junior Janelle Turnquest homers twice for the Eagles, her second and third of the year.
** Emory breaks loose for five runs in the top of the fifth, with sophomore Cassie Baca knocking in the first tally with a one-out double that plates Herrmann, who led off the frame with a walk and then got to third base following a sacrifice by Kinsey Glasgow and a wild pitch.
** After a Taylor Forte single pushed home Bacca, Michael smacks a two-run homer, her third of the year, to give the Eagles a 4-0 edge.
** Sophomore Janelle Turnquest made it back-to-back homers with a solo blast, her second of the year, to close out the scoring in the fifth.   
**Turnquest delivers a solo blast in the top of the seventh while Herrmann stokes a run-producing single to close out the game's scoring
** Feller, making her second collegiate start, tosses all seven innings en route to the shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out four.

GAME 3 – EMORY 15, CASE WESTERN 3
** Emory establishes season highs with 15 runs and 15 hits, the fourth straight game it has collected 10 or more safeties.
** Four Eagles register two or more hits including Jessie Michael who goes 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs. 
** Janelle Turnquest and Sarah Flanders each knock in three runs and pick up two hits
** Pitcher Sami Feller raises her record to 4-0 after throwing allowing two runs and four hits, while striking out five, over 6 1/3 innings.
** Holding a 3-0 lead, Emory tacks up pair up in the third frame when a two-bagger by Turnquest moved Michael to third, whereupon she scampered home on a Case error. Turnquest then scored when Flanders came through with a two-out double
** The Eagles blow the game open with a four-run, fourth inning that is highlighted by a two-run homer by Turnquest.
** The Eagles take advantage of three Spartans errors in the top of the seventh, crossing the plate seven times. Ashley Powers leads off the frame with a solo homer, her second of the season.  Later in the inning, Flanders doubles for the second time, scoring Lana Herrmann and Jessie Michael.

GAME 4 – CASE WESTERN 5, EMORY 4
** Case Western's Annie Wennerberg's leadoff homer in the bottom of the seventh snapped a 4-4 tie and gave the Spartans the come-from-behind win.
** Emory scores three runs in the top of the first before its first batter is retired. A walk to Cassie Bacca followed by a Taylor Forte single, which extends her hitting streak to seven games, sets the stage for a three-run homer by Jessie Michael, her fourth of the campaign and third in the series. Michael has driven in two or more runs on eight occasions this year.

** After Case got on the board in the bottom of the third, Emory answered with a run as a one-out double by Powers scored Sam Vincent who led off with a single and then advanced on a sacrifice bunt.
** Case scraps back to knot the score with a three-run fifth inning, the last two runs crossing the plate as a result of a double steal and a wild pitch.
** Emory pitcher Brittany File, who came on in relief, was saddled with the setback, her fourth in 11 decisions.
** Forte and Michael combine for four of Emory's six hits.
** Michael has a huge series against the Spartans, hitting .529 (9 of 17) with 13 RBIs and seven runs scored.
** Forte hits .642 (9 of 14) and scores five runs.
** Cassie Baca has scored at least one run in her last eight games.
