Emory Rallies For Win Over Messiah

The Emory softball team opened play at the William Peace Triangle Classic on Saturday morning with a dramatic come-from-behind win over Messiah College. The No. 11- ranked Eagles raised their record to 6-3 following a 2-1 decision over the No. 3 Falcons who slipped to 2-1.

Sophomore Lana Herrmann provided the heroics with a two-out walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh that scored Cassie Baca from second. Baca had opened the frame with a single and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Powers. Baca collected two Emory's five hits in the contest. Emory trailed by a 1-0 margin before knotting the score in the bottom of the sixth. 

Freshman Jessie Michael led off the inning with a two-bagger before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Forte. Sophomore Jenna Wilson was then inserted as a pinch runner where she eventually scored as a result of a fielder's choice. 

Senior pitcher Brittany File pocketed her fourth win in five decisions, tossing all seven innings and allowing just four hits and striking out 10.
