From Emory University Athletics

The Emory softball team closed out a successful first day at the William Peace Triangle Classic Saturday afternoon with a victory over North Carolina Wesleyan. The Eagles won for the fourth straight time and raised their record to 7-3 following a 4-0 decision over the Battling Bishops who slipped to 1-5.

Freshman pitcher Sami Feller raised her record to 2-0, hurling the first five innings and allowing four hits while striking out two. Sophomore Madeline Maday went the final two frames.

Sophomore Cassie Baca and senior Amy Wray combined for five of the Eagles' six hits with Baca going 3-for-3 while Wray rang up a pair of safeties in three trips to the plate. The Eagles got on the board in the top of first when sophomore Sarah Flanders doubled and then stole third. She later scored as a result of an error by the NCWC catcher.

Emory tacked up two more runs in the second when Wray and Baca opened the frame with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice by Ashley Powers moved each runner up, a ground out by Janelle Turnquest scored Wray while a miscue by the third baseman on a Lana Herrmann ground ball allowed Baca to cross the plate. The Eagles final talk came in the sixth when an infield single by Baca plated pinch runner Jenna Wilson.
