From NYU Athletics

The New York University softball team split a doubleheader against host Brandeis University on Saturday, April 15, Waltham, MA. Brandeis took game one 6-4, before NYU came back to win game two 9-4.

The contests were the third and fourth of a four-game series between the Violets (15-11, 4-4 UAA) and Judges (9-10, 4-5 UAA) this weekend in Massachusetts. NYU took the first two games of the series with a doubleheader sweep on Friday.

Brandeis scored five runs in the first inning of game one and led the rest of the way. NYU did make it close, however, putting the tying run on base in the seventh inning, but the Judges were able to get a double play to end the game and win 6-4.

Game two saw the Violets go ahead 3-0, before a grand slam put the hosts up 4-3. NYU tied the game in the fifth inning and took the lead in the sixth on a two-RBI single from Diana King. The Violets extended their lead to five in the seventh inning and held on for the 9-4 series-clinching victory.

Game One Highlights:

- King and Dakota Damiani each had two hits to lead NYU.

Claire Stefanelli came around to score a pair of runs.

- King hit a two-run home run in the third inning. It was her third home run in as many games.

Game One Highlights:

- King had another two-hit, two-RBI performance and was also the pitcher of record. The sophomore threw a complete game in the circle to earn her third victory of the season, striking out six and walking just two.

- Five other Violets also finished the game with two hits including Samantha Sicignano and Sage Scheiwiller, who each doubled twice.

- Stefanelli hit a home run in the first inning and finished the contest with three RBIs.
