Seniors Hannah Mehrle and Janet Taylor combined to drive in all five runs to lead the Washington University in St. Louis softball team to a 5-4 upset win over No. 10-ranked Coe College in WashU Invitational Friday in St. Louis.

WashU won its third-straight game to improve to 9-4, while Coe had its 12-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 13-2.

Mehrle went 2-for-3 with a run scored, two RBIs and a walk, while Taylor was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Junior Hera Tang (2-for-3), senior Kenzie James (2-for-3, run scored) and junior Ashley Madsen (2-for-2, walk, two runs scored) also had multi-hit games. The Bears had 10 hits in the win.

Coe jumped out in front 2-0 with a pair of runs in its first at-bat, but WashU answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning following an RBI single up the middle by Mehrle. The Bears left the bases loaded in the first.

Mehrle knotted the game with an RBI single in the second, and then Taylor ripped a two-out double to left driving in two to make it 4-2. The Kohawks knotted the score at 4-4 with a pair of runs in the third.

Junior pitcher Anna McKee retired nine straight after giving up two runs in the third inning to keep it a one-run game.

Madsen singled to lead off the fourth, and then moved to third after a sacrifice bunt and a groundout. Mehrle was intentionally walked, and then Taylor doubled to right center for the eventual game-winning RBI.

McKee (4-1) allowed five hits and four runs (three earned) as she tossed her fourth complete game of the season.
