Freshman pitcher Jacqueline Spizizen hurled a pair of back-to-back, complete-game shutouts in leading the Emory softball team to a sweep of a Sunday doubleheader over No. 19-ranked Berry College. The Eagles raised their record to 4-2 following 2-0 and 1-0 decisions over the Vikings who slipped to 6-2.

Spizizen allowed just three hits in the opener and recorded six punchouts. After giving up a leadoff single, Spizizen kept the Vikings in check, retiring 13 straight batters before a one-out single in the top of the fifth eventually led to a bases-loaded, two-out situation that was stymied when Spizizen induced a pop out. Meanwhile, Berry pitcher Meredith Holland allowed Emory just one hit through four frames before the Eagles broke through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Drew Bullock came through with a clutch two-out double that plated junior Jenna Wilson, who opened the inning with an infield single, and junior Sarah Flanders who walked and then stole second.

Spizizen gave up nine hits in the nightcap and dodged some Berry scoring threats, with the Vikings putting runners on base in every inning and eventually leaving nine stranded on base. Spizizen closed out the contest with four strikeouts while not issuing any walks. Berry senior Kassie Howard surrendered just one Emory hit over her six innings of work, but it proved to generate to game's only score. Flanders led off with a single and ended up on third following a stolen base and subsequent error by the Berry catcher. After retiring the next two Eagles, Howard hit Sarah Katz, who then attempted to steal second, leading to a run-down that allowed Flanders to cross the plate before she was tagged out.
