From NYU Athletics
The New York University softball team opened its 2018 season by sweeping a doubleheader from Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham on Sunday, March 4, in Madison, NJ.
The Violets (2-0) won the first game 3-1 and the nitecap by a score of 4-1 over the Devils (0-2).
Game 1 Summary:
Scarlett Murphy went the distance on the mound for the Violets, allowing only six hits. She did not walk a batter and the only run scored by FDU-Florham was unearned.
NYU trailed 1-0, but scored all three runs in the sixth. Claire Stefanelli started the rally with a leadoff walk, stole second and eventually scored on a RBI single by Taylor Kenerson. The other two Violet runs were unearned.
Game 2 Summary:
The Violets scored a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh innings to complete the sweep.
Cassi Parulis picked up the victory with six strong innings, allowing only four hits without walking a batter. She struck out five.and allowed one earned run. Karissa Zubulake pitched a scoreless inning for the save.
The Violets' two-run fifth was highlighted by Kenerson's one-out double, stolen base and run scored. Morgan Clemens added a RBI double.
In the seventh, Diana King's two-run home run provided the final scores of the afternoon.
