The New York University softball team swept a doubleheader against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday, April 17, at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx, NY.
The host Violets (14-12) won the first game 9-1 and defeated the Dolphins (9-13) in the nitecap by a score of 10-0.
The Violets used a pair of "P's" (pitching and power) in capturing the opener. Karissa Zubulake went the distance for the Violets, while Caroline Saccacio and Jacqueline Finn belted home runs.
Saccacio's solo blast set the tone in the first inning as the Violets jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. Finn's round-tripper accounted for NYU's sixth run in the second inning.
Zubulake threw all six innings, allowing only six hits and one earned run. She struck out five in recording her team-leading fifth win of the season.
Cassi Parulis made the start in game two and allowed only one hit in the five-inning affair. She had a no-hitter for 4.1 innings before Katie Moos got the only Dolphins' hit with a short flair to left field. Other than that, Parulis was dominanat, striking out six and yielding only one walk.
Parulis also contributed to the Violets' 12-hit attack with a RBI double, her first hit of the season.
The NYU starter had plenty of help from her friends in the nitecap, as the team scored in all four of their turns at bat including a four-run first inning. Finn, Allyson Schmus and Sage Scheiwiller each knocked in two runs in the game, while Diana King scored three times.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES:
Game 1:
- In addition to her home run, Finn walked three times in her four plate appearances.
- King drove in three runs.
- Dakota Damiani walked twice, scored two runs, had a hit and a RBI.
- Scheiwiller had two hits and a RBI.
- Ashley Mains stole her first base of the season.
Game 2:
- Samantha Sicignano went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
- Mary Tindall also went 2-for-3.
- The Violets did not commit an error after also going errorless in the opener.
"Today, we put together good pitching, good hitting and good fielding. We did well in all facets of the game and the results speak for themselves," said Head Coach Now-Allah James. "This is the type of performance we've been striving for all season and it's what we must maintain heading into our final stretch of UAA games."
