UAA Announces 2018 Softball All-Association Team; Jacqueline Spizizen of Emory and Maren Waldner of CWRU Take Top Honors

Jacqueline Spizizen of UAA champion Emory University was named Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year, while senior Maren Waldner of Case Western Reserve University was selected as Position Player of the Year as the UAA announced the 2018 Softball All-Association Team.

Spizizen has enjoyed a fine rookie season, crafting a ledger of 16-5 with her victory total first in the UAA, 31st nationally and tied for 15th on the program's seasonal chart. The owner of an Association-leading earned run average of 1.43 (33rd in D-III), Spizizen has fanned 135 opposing batters with that mark second in the UAA and 45th in D-III. In addition, Spizizen has chalked up a school-record tying four saves.

Waldner is batting .489 overall (68-for-139) with 38 runs scored and 31 runs batted in. She led the UAA with a .491 average (27-of-55) in Association play with 14 runs scored and 10 RBI.

Josie Henry and her coaching staff were named UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for leading the Spartans to their second NCAA appearance in program history.
