Katie Wede of CWRU Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Case Western Reserve University senior center fielder Katie Wede was named to the Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), following her standout season both on the field and in the classroom for the Spartans.

This was the first career Academic All-District honor for Wede, who, by earning the award, will be placed on the Academic All-America ballot.

Wede, a two-time All-UAA first team selection, became the program's all-time stolen bases leader this season as she surpassed former Spartan Molly O'Brien's record of 66. She finished the regular season with 70 career stolen bases after stealing a team-high 20 bases during the 2018. Wede batted .308 (40-for-130) with one home run, four doubles, 14 RBI's and 34 runs scored.

During her four-year career as a Spartan, Wede has batted .339 (174-for-513) with five home runs, 37 doubles, 64 RBI's and 135 runs scored.

Academically, Wede is a three-time UAA All-Academic honoree, and has recorded a 4.00 grade point average as an Accounting major.

Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by members of CoSIDA. Case Western Reserve is a part of District 7, which includes Division III student-athletes from colleges in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. By virtue of being named to the Academic All-District Team, Wede will be placed on the ballot for the Academic All-America team, with first-, second-, and third-teams to be announced in June.
