Washington University in St. Louis senior third baseman Taylor Arends earned 2019 Google Cloud Division III Academic All-America First-Team Honors, as announced Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Arends, a first-team selection in 2018 and a third-team honoree in 2017, is the third player in the 20-year history of the program to earn three Academic All-America citations joining Liz Swary (2003-05) and Kelsey Neal (2012-14). She is also the 13th player in WashU school history across all sports to earn the honor three times.
Arends was a Third-Team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Midwest Region and first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection as a senior. She started 33 games at third base and hit a team-best .408 with seven doubles, three triples and 20 RBIs. Arends ranked first in the conference in on-base percentage (.483) and third in batting average, and was named the UAA Hitter of the Week on March 11.
A three-time all-Region and four-time all-UAA selection, Arends started all 151 games in her career and ranks fifth in WashU school history in hits (190) and sixth in runs scored (127) and batting average (.393).
A three-time Google Cloud Academic All-District and Academic All-UAA selection, Arends graduated with a 3.96 grade point average while majoring in psychological and brain sciences with a minor in healthcare management.
