From Washington University Athletics
The Washington University in St. Louis softball team had nine student-athletes honored as 2017-18 Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Division III Scholar Athletes, as announced by the association.
In addition, WashU was recognized as an All-Academic Team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.491 for the 2017-18 academic year, which ranked 36thin NCAA Division III. Otterbein University topped the list for Division III with a team GPA of 3.751.
Those honored include: Taylor Arends, Maggie Clapp, Mackenzie Gauden, Abby Graegin, Hannah McCall, Anna McKee, Michaela Morhaus, Kendall Schwartz and Hera Tang. The award is given to any nominee who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2017-18 academic year.
This past spring, Arends was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-American Division III First Team. Arends is the third player in the 19-year history of the program to earn multiple Academic All-America citations. In addition, Arends and Clapp earned Google Cloud Academic All-District accolades.
WashU also had seven student-athletes earn 2018 University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Academic honors: Arends, Clapp, Gauden, McCall, McKee, Morhaus and Tang.
WashU posted a 16-14 overall record in 2018, and finished third in the UAA with an 8-8 mark. The Bears had the 25th-best strength of schedule (.608) in NCAA Division III.
