Carnegie Mellon University head women's basketball coach Jacquie Hullah has announced that Katy Howard will join her as a full-time assistant coach for the 2014-2015 season. Howard comes to Pittsburgh from Worcester State University, where she served as an assistant coach for one year.

A 2013 graduate of Assumption College, Howard wasted little time starting her career, as she jumped on board the Worcester State staff her first year out of college. While in Worcester, Massachusetts, Howard was responsible for the coordination of drills for team practices, management of team film sessions and monitored team weightlifting sessions. She was also involved in recruitment of future student-athletes.

"I am excited to welcome Katy to our Carnegie Mellon Women's Basketball family," Coach Hullah said. "She brings a passion for the game, a love of people, and a highly competitive spirit to our program. I know that she will make an immediate impact with our team's individual player development and in working with prospective student-athletes and their families."

Howard, who was born in Pittsburgh, played collegiately at Division II Assumption in Worcester, where she enjoyed a solid career as a four-year starter. Howard was a 1,000-point scorer, who finished 14th on the all-time scoring list while she averaged 3.4 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 114 games. She also has the honorable distinction of being the program's all-time leader in minutes played and contests started.

Success is also something Howard is familiar with as she helped lead the Greyhounds to the championship game of the Northeast 10 Tournament and an appearance in the NCAA Division II East Regionals her senior year. Additionally, Howard was instrumental in pacing Medway High School to three Massachusetts State Division 3 South Girls Basketball Tournaments including a trip to the quarterfinals in 2009.

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with Coach Hullah and be a part of the women's basketball program at Carnegie Mellon University," said Howard. "It is an honor to me to represent such a prestigious institution and work with these incredible young women."

Howard will begin in her new position on August 4.
