Strong Free Throw Presence Pushes Rochester Past Brandeis

Loren Wagner scored 20 points and made a career high 12 free throws to power the University of Rochester to a 74-51 victory over Brandeis University in women's basketball at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Friday night.

Danielle McNabb added 15 points and Kelsey Hurley scored 11 for the Yellowjackets (10-13 overall, 4-8 UAA).

Brandeis did not have a double-figure scorer. Paris Hodges scored nine points for the Judges. Janelle Rodriguez scored seven, while Maria Jackson, Nicolina Vitale, and Angela Miller scored six points apiece. Brandeis is 12-11 overall, 6-6 in the UAA.

Rochester hit 52% from the floor in the second half (12-23) and 44% for the game (23-52). The Yellowjaackets sank seven 3-point goals – from five players. Hurley and McNabb made two apiece. Led by Wagner's 12 of 15 accuracy from the line, Rochester sank 21 of 26 free throw attempts.

Brandeis hit 38% from the floor in the first half (11-29) and 30% in the second half (7-23). The Judges were 2-10 from outside the arc and 13 of 21 at the line (62%).

Rochester sscored 22 poitns of 18 Brandeis turnovers and had 11 second-chance points from 10 offensive rebounds. Brandeis scored 14 poins from 17 Rochester giveaways and four second chance points.

McNabb sank a 3-pointer and later added a free throw in a 10-0 run over seven minutes that gave Rochester a 24-16 lead with 4:39 left in the first half. The lead went to 13, 35-22, on Hurley's 3-pointer in the last 36 seconds. Rochester led, 35-24, at the half.
