New York University women's basketball junior
co-captain Maya Wasowicz was featured
in the 'Faces in the Crowd' section of the December 29
issue of Sports Illustrated.
Back in early November while the Violets were preparing to start
the 2014-15 season, Wasowicz was in Breman, Germany, competing at
the 22nd Karate World Championships. She finished seventh overall
in the female elite Kumite +68 kg division, the highest finish
amongst all American competitors.
The New York City native has helped lead the nationally-ranked
(#8 d3hoops.com/#9 USA Today) Violets to a 10-0 start,
contributing 7.2 points per game in just under 15 minutes. She is
also second in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with an
83.3 free throw shooting percentage.
The junior economics major is the first NYU athlete to be featured
in 'Faces in the Crowd' since volleyball player Elena Drinka was
highlighted by SI in the October 27, 2005 issue.
