The University of Chicago women's basketball team recorded its most efficient offensive performance in nine years to defeat New York University 87-73 on Sunday.

The Maroons improved to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in the University Athletic Association. They sent the No. 7-ranked Violets (15-1, 4-1 UAA) to their first loss of the year.

In the final stats, UChicago shot 62.2 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from three-point range. The last time the Maroons shot at least 60 percent in a game was at North Park University on Dec. 10, 2005 (61.9 percent). The school record for field-goal percentage in a game is 63.3 percent, which was set versus Illinois Wesleyan University during the 2003-04 season.

NYU held the lead for the opening five minutes of the game. But once sophomore guard Stephanie Anderson converted a go-ahead layup at 9-8, UChicago never trailed again in the game. The Maroons used a 13-0 run to go up 17-8. Seniors Ali Shaw and Morgan Donovan burned the Violets throughout the first half, scoring 10 points each.

Shaw's three-pointer at 40-24 gave the visitors their biggest lead of the period and they cruised into the break with a 46-31 advantage. UChicago made 57.1 percent of its field goals in the half while NYU was held to 34.4 percent shooting.

In the second half, the Maroons were even more successful on the offensive end and made 70.6 percent of their shots from the field. Each side exchanged points back and forth, and the closest the Violets would get was 63-55 midway through the half. UChicago promptly went on an 11-1 run and led by as many as 20 points. Senior forward Claire Devaney posted her first double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Donovan dished out a season-best seven assists.

UChicago led the final rebounding stats 36-30, however, NYU held a 15-0 edge on second-chance points. The Maroons committed 26 turnovers and the Violets turned the ball over 18 times.
