Rochester Surges Past Oneonta With Big Second Half

Rochester used an 18-4 run over the first 10 minutes of the second half to surge past SUNY Oneonta, 65-56, in women's basketball on Saturday evening.
 
Alexandra Leslie led all scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds. Mary Kronenwetter scored 11 points and grabbed four boards in 17 minutes off the bench. Between them, they made 11 of 16 shots from the floor (7-9 for Leslie, 4-7 for Kronenwetter). The Yellowjackets are 1-0.
 
Caysea Cohen scored 17 points for Oneonta (0-1) and Sarah Longto had 10 points and 10 rebounds in 14 minutes before fouling out.
 
Oneonta led throughout the first half with the lead peaking at eight, 25-17, on Longto's layup. It was 33-28 at the half.
 
With Oneonta ahead, 37-33, early in the second half, Breanna Madrazo sank a three-pointer to trigger a 13-0 run over the next five minutes. Madrazo scored eight points in the run – the trey, a jumper, and a conventional three-point play. Kronenwetter made a conventional three-point play, then scored another layup. Rochester led, 46-37, with 10:30 left in the game.
 
The Red Dragons drew within five (46-41) but Sarah Kaminsky and Leslie sank two free throws apiece, Blair Landolfi hit a trey, Leslie added a layup, then assisted on a jumper by Kelsey Hurley. The lead was 14, 57-43, with less than five minutes left.
 
Landolfi scored nine points for Rochester. Madrazo had eight – all in the game-turning run. Skye Dole equaled Leslie's total of seven rebounds to give the Yellowjackets a slight 38-35 edge on the backboard.
