The University of Rochester found its shooting touch in
the second half as the Yellowjacket women's basketball team cruised
to an 81-50 victory over William Smith College on Tuesday
night.
Rochester (2-0) shot a combined 64% (21-33) after halftime,
including going 6-7 from behind the arc to nearly double up the
Herons (0-2) in the second half.
Yellowjacket senior Blair Landolfi had the best shooting
night of her career, going 7-7 from the floor, including 3-3 on
trey's to lead UR with 17 points. Freshman Alexandra Leslie
added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists while senior Ally Zywicki
added seven points and six helpers.
Overall, 12 players scored for Rochester in a balanced effort
that saw the team end the night shooting 50% (35-70) from the
floor.
William Smith seemingly shot themselves in the foot,
committing 24 turnovers and missing 11 free throws. The
Herons had one player in double figures with Gabrielle Eure adding
in 10 points and grabbing four rebounds.
The key run of the game came to start the 2nd half, with
Rochester shooting 7-8, including 3-3 from three point range in an
18-5 spurt over the first 6:45. UR boosted its seven point
halftime lead to 20, making the score 50-30 over that
stretch.
The victory avenges a loss to the Herons last season on
January 5th, a 74-69 victory for William Smith. Rochester now
leads the all-time series with the Herons 36-12.
