Four in Double Figures Push Tartans to 7-0

The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team extended its record to 7-0 with a 70-57 road win against Bethany College on Monday, December 7. Four Tartans scored in double figures with senior Lindsay Poss (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) recording a double-double.

The Tartans held an 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter using a 10-0 run in the middle of the stanza that ended with a tip-in by junior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean). Murphy's basket gave the Tartans a 12-5 advantage with 3:36 to go.

The second period opened with a layup by Poss which sparked a 13-2 run. A three-pointer by juniorJackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook (Colgate)) pushed the Tartans lead to 19 points four minutes into the quarter. The teams traded hoops the remainder of the half, as Carnegie Mellon held a 46-28 lead.

The Tartans scored 11 points in the third quarter but pushed their lead to as many as 25 on a layup by Murphy.

Bethany cut the deficit to 10 with four minutes to play but managed just one point the rest of the way as the Tartans went on to the 13-point victory.

Murphy led the Tartans with 19 points while Poss finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Hudepohl and senior Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) also tallied double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively. The Tartans shot below 45% for the first time this season, finishing with a performance of 44.4%. Freshman Jenn Mayberger (Chesterfield, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) picked up a career-best five steals while dishing out a team-best four assists.

Bethany shot 29.5% for the game and was led by Hayley Holenka's 18 points and Mikyla Tipton's 11 points and 13 rebounds.
