Washington University in St. Louis senior forward Amanda Martinez was selected to the 2016 WBCA NCAA Division III All-America Honorable Mention Team, as announced Friday night by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Martinez is the 12th individual in WashU women's basketball history to earn WBCA All-America honors. An All-University Athletic Association (UAA) First Team and D3hoops.com All-Central Region Second Team selection, she finished the season as WashU's leading scorer with 11.3 points per game while starting all 29 contests.
Martinez compiled a team-high 87 steals, the third-highest single-season total in school history, and finished second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures in 20 of 29 games, including a career-high 25 points against Simpson College Dec. 5. Martinez was selected as the 2015 McWilliams Classic Most Valuable Player, and was named the UAA Athlete of the Week Feb. 1.
In addition to Martinez's All-America Honorable Mention honor, head coach Nancy Fahey was selected as the United States Marine Corps/WBCA NCAA Division III Region 7 Coach of the Year. It is the seventh time in her career she has received Region Coach of the Year honors from the WBCA, and the first time since the 2010-11 season.
WashU finished the season with a 23-6 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Sectional Championship for the first time since 2011 before falling at No. 1 Thomas More College. The Bears also won the UAA for the third year in a row and 22nd time in program history with an 11-3 conference record.
