Junior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team was named to the 2016 WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches' All-America team, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today. The honor is a first from the organization for a Carnegie Mellon basketball player.

The WBCA All-America team is comprised of 10 members. The team was selected by a vote of the selection committee. The committee is composed of one representative from each of the nine geographical regions and a chairperson.

"The 10 members of the 2016 WBCA NCAA Division III Coaches' All-America Team are well deserving of this recognition, and the WBCA congratulates them for their accomplishments this season," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "These young women have worked to elevate themselves and their teams to an elite level and through their exceptional talents on the basketball court, they have lifted the women's game."

Murphy finished the year with a school season record scoring average of 23.5 points per game while shooting an NCAA Division III record 75.2 percent. She also finished with 10.7 rebounds a game to record her second straight season with an average of more than 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The junior set another NCAA record during the season when she made 16 consecutive field goals against La Roche College on November 30. In that game, Murphy finished 16-for-16 from the floor with five free throws to record a career-high 37 points.

In the Tartans' NCAA second round win against Ohio Northern University, Murphy became the all-time scoring leader in Carnegie Mellon women's basketball history and now has 1,625 points.

The Tartans finished the year with a 21-7 record, tying the school record for wins in a season. They also won two NCAA games for the first time in program history, finishing as one of the top 16 teams in the country.

"Lisa is a gifted scholar-athlete who has challenged herself to grow as a player and person each and every season at Carnegie Mellon University," head coach Jacquie Hullah said. "Her work ethic, competitiveness and leadership skills have taken our program to new heights. Lisa's love for the game, team-first attitude, belief and trust in her teammates, combined with humility and quiet confidence are a true reflection of the core values of our program."
