Rochester Now 9-1 After 21-Point Victory Over Ramapo

Rochester boosted its women's basketball record to 9-1 with a 67-46 victory over Ramapo College in the Puerto Rico Clasico on Wednesday afternoon. 

It was the fourth straight win for the Yellowjackets who are ranked #21 in the current D3hoops.com poll. Ramapo is 3-9 overall.

Jillian Silvestri led Rochester with 16 points on 7-12 shooting from the field (which included one three-point goal). She added six rebounds, five assists, and three blocked shots in 21 minutes.

Sarah Kaminsky scored 12 points, hitting four three-pointers. She made two steals in 19 minutes. Kayla Kibling sank three triples for nine points. That accompanied three assists in 22 minutes. Al Leslie, who had 13 points in the victory over #9 Montclair State on Tuesday, scored eight points (6-6 at the foul line) with six rebounds, two blocked, three assists, and two steals. She played 22 minutes.

As a team, Rochester hit .424 from the floor (25-59), .600 outside the arc (9-15), and .889 at the stripe (8-9). The Yellowjackets scored nine second chance points off a dozen offensive rebounds and turned 16 Ramapo turnovers into 10 points.

At the other end, Ramapo shot .361 from the field (13-36), .200 outside the three-point line (1-5), and .514 at the stripe (19-37, including 12-26 in the second half). The Roadrunners grabbed seven offensive rebounds but could not produce any points from them. They did score eight points in transition off 12 Rochester turnovers. Alexandra Seedes led Ramapo with 14 points. She was 7-10 at the line. Kellie Lane scored 10 points.

Rochester held a 36-30 rebounding edge, made nine steals, and blocked six shots – three by Silvestri, two by Leslie, and one by Lauren Deming.

The game turned rapidly in the middle of the second quarter. Rochester nursed a 7-6 lead after the first period. Ramapo ran off a 7-0 burst in the second period and took a 15-12 lead on a pair of free throws by Lane with 5:39 left in the half.

Silvestri sank back to back jumpshots and Kibling drained a three-pointer to trigger an 18-0 Yellowjacket run that put Rochester ahead, 30-15, in the closing minute of the half. Leslie finished the burst with two free throws following a bench technical on Ramapo. Seedes hit a three-pointer, but Silvestri answered with her own three-pointer and Rochester carried a 33-18 lead into the locker room at the half.
