From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

Carnegie Mellon University senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) earned her second honor from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association as the Division III Player of the Week, fourth as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week and third nod to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. The 6'1 center had a standout weekend when she recorded her 2,000th career point, 1,000th career rebound and 200th career block.

The Tartans collected two more wins this weekend to move to 15-1 on the year and 4-1 in the UAA. In those wins, Murphy averaged 35.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks and made 20-of-24 (83.3%) field-goal attempts and 30-of-33 (90.9%) attempts from the line while recording her ninth and 10th consecutive double-doubles.

On Sunday versus Emory University, Murphy reached all three milestones in the team's 93-73 win at home when she recorded a career-high and UAA-record 44 points on 15-of-16 (93.8%) shooting from the floor and 14-of-16 (87.5%) shooting from the free throw line. Her stat line in a 71-62 win against No. 23 University of Rochester on Friday read as 26 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks.

Murphy became the first women's basketball player in the 30-year history of the UAA to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds and the 18th player in women's Division III history to do it. By adding her 200th block this weekend, she became the 8th player in DIII history to score 2,000 points, grab 1,000 rebounds and block 200 shots.

The Tartans received their highest national ranking to date this week, as they are ninth in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll. The Tartans return to the court on Friday, January 27 when No. 11 Washington University in St. Louis visits Pittsburgh at 6:00 p.m.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the third season the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.
