From University of Rochester Athletics
Junior post player Alexandra Leslie had one of the most dominating seasons in women's basketball history at Rochester. Now, she's been justifiably rewarded for it.
For the second consecutive year, Leslie was named the East Region Player of the Year by D3hoops.com and chosen First Team All-East. She is joined by classmate Lauren Deming who was named to the third team.
They are two of eight players from University Athletic Association schools to be honored. The other UAA honorees are: Northeast – Maria Jackson (Brandeis, fourth team), South – Ashley Oldshue (Emory, second team), Great Lakes – Lisa Murphy (Carnegie Mellon, player of the year and first team), Kara Hageman (Case Western Reserve, third team), Central – Madeline Homoly (Washington, First Team), Britta Nordstrom (Chicago, third team), Carissa Sain-Knoche (Chicago, Coach of the Year).
Leslie was named First Team All-UAA and Deming was a Second Team honoree. Rochester posted a 17-8 record in the regular season (8-6 in the UAA, third place). The Yellowjackets were selected as a Pool C (at-large) team for the second straight year. In the first round of the NCAA playoffs, Rochester defeated Keene State College, 67-55, at SUNY Geneseo. In the second round, the Yellowjackets lost to Geneseo, 78-72. Rochester's final record was 18-9.
For the season, Leslie averaged 21.9 ppg. and 9.7 rpg. She scored 590 points in 27 games, shooting 56.5% from the floor, 83.5% from the line. She also made three of 10 three-point shots. The point total is the second highest total for a single-season by any Rochester women's player. Leslie also accumulated 56 assists, 44 blocks, and 19 steals.
Deming finished second in scoring, averaging 12.3 ppg. She shot 49.8% from the field, 32.8% outside the arc (21-64), and 72.2% from the line. She was second in rebounding at 7.5 ppg., had a team-high 64 assists, 23 blocked shots, and 29 steals.
