The Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball head coach Randi Henderson announced the hiring of Marke Freeman as the full-time assistant coach.
Freeman joins the Bears for the 2017-18 season after previously serving as a director of the Point Guard College for four years. She also served as the graduate assistant coach with Division I University of Missouri-Kansas City for two years.
"I am most excited about the energy, intensity and passion Marke lives every day with," said Henderson. "I believe her daily approach will motivate all of us and add to the culture instilled here at WashU."
The Springfield, Ill.-native was a standout Division I student-athlete while attending Northern Illinois University garnering multiple All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) honors. She was named the MAC Sixth Player of the Year in 2008-09, and capped off her collegiate career by averaging 16.1 points per game in 2010-11.
She ranks 14th all-time in Northern Illinois scoring history, despite playing just three years after transferring from Florida A&M, with 1,257 points. Freeman's career free-throw percentage of 83.3% also ranks third all-time in Huskies history.
Following graduation from Northern Illinois, with a degree in communications, Freeman continued to excel on the court as a professional. She played two years overseas with the Tecza of Leszno, Poland, where she averaged 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals to earn Rookie of the Year honors and a spot on the PLKK All-Star team.
"I chose to become a Bear for three reasons, I whole-heartedly believe in coach Henderson's vision and plan for the program both academically and athletically," said Freeman. "The environment is one of a kind and finally the expectation of excellence academically and athletically is not something you see often, if at all. It is apparent at WashU.

Freeman's primary responsibilities will include guard player development, recruiting and scouting, as well as game and practice strategy and preparation.
